FOP is important as it is the only disease in the world that makes humans go through a metamorphosis and completely change a cell in their body to a different one. This, of course, refers to the fact that FOP causes soft tissue in the body to change into bone. this is an extraordinary feat which is done by turning the soft tissue cells into stem cells and then to bone cells.
